smocking

last night i was taught smocking in the lovely ladies from bricolage pop up shop

this is embroidery used over gathered material

we started of stitching 4 rows of running stitch equally spaced out in a straight line on about a 70 cm piece of linen, you then pulled these strands tort which pleated the fabric down to around 5 cms

you stitch horizontally through the pleats half way down to make patterns

once all stitched you then take out the rows you did at the beginning

i was left with 7 cms of smocking
